Winter is Fun Time in Wayne County
Don’t let the cold keep you indoors this winter; there is plenty to keep you “out and about” in Wayne County this season.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, fishing is available on the surrounding bays provided the ice is thick enough. You may want to check out the Fishing Update on our website at www.waynecountytourism.com or call the Fishing Hotline at (315) 946-5466. You will be informed of the fishing hot spots and what fish are biting this season.
When and if we have adequate snow this winter, Wayne County has numerous snowmobile trails that are open to the public. Call us for a free trail map or contact your local snowmobile club. (Our map has been updated for 2008)
Brantling Ski and Snowboard Center is OPEN. Quality instructors, value pricing for great family fun awaits you. They are located at 4015 Fishfarm Road in Sodus. Call for snow report and conditions at 315-331-2365 or visit their website at www.brantling.com.
The newest activities and events are happening at the Montezuma Audubon Center . The Center is hosting “ Hot Cocoa and Snow Series”, “ Home School Nature Series ” and “Bird-of-the-Month Series”. Take advantage of what winter offers the Montezuma Wetlands Complex and join Audubon staff for family outdoor nature programs and a steaming cup of hot cocoa. Pre-registration requested. “ Snowshoeing at the Montezuma Audubon Center ” - Come get your heart pumping and your legs working while snowshoeing through the snow covered wonderland surrounding the Montezuma Audubon Center . The Center has snowshoes available to rent for yourself, family, scout group, or outdoors club. The shoes fit anyone from 80 to 240 pounds and are available during the Center's open hours. Fee: $5/adult, $3/for children (12 and under) and $3/for any member of the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. For more information check out their website at www.friendsofmontezuma.org
February brings three main events you won’t want to miss. The 3 rd Annual GalaSnowflake Ball is being held at Waypoint Fine Food & Spirits. This is a fundraiser for Cracker Box Palace , a farm animal haven. Captain Jack’s Restaurant in Sodus Point will be the location for “The Annual Chili Blues FamilyFest”. This event is sponsored by the Great Sodus Bay Association and features a chili contest, BBQ buffet, winter games (weather permitting), raffles, activities and music. For more information on this event you can call 315-483-6391 or visit www.greatsodusbay.org. The Village of Palmyra will host the annual “Curling on the Canal” on February 24. Curling is a sport played on ice between two teams. It’s a great family event and more details will follow.
