The B.H.P.S museum was previously the Methodist Episcopal Church built in 1836. Trees were cut on site and processed at a sawmill which is still in operation today and is located south of the church. You can still see tree stumps underneath the floor.

The paneled lectern of the pulpit area is the original. Later congregations used bench pews but outlines of the original box pews can be seen on the floor. Doors from the box pews were discovered in the attic and are on display.

The rear annex was used for Sunday school and contained a kitchen for social events. The annex now houses an extensive collection of Butler artifacts on exhibit. The crowning glory of the church museum is the unique bell tower. It stands on a narrow plinth set at the front of the roof edge. On each side is a delicate double arch with dark painted trefoils.

In 2003, the building was restored and placed on the NYS and National Historical Registers. Take a stroll through the cemetery behind the church museum to find Civil War graves. It is also the burial place of Thomas Armstrong, the first sheriff in Wayne County.
