Painting the Open Land
Genesee Land Trust Presents Painting the Open Land, our first plein air art event on Saturday, September 25 at Cornwall Preserve in Williamson. This is an opportunity for local artists to paint the varied views and landscapes including Lake Ontario, meadows and orchards, woods, and winding trails of the 77-acre preserve.
September 25 is National Public Lands Day, a day to celebrate the land and its inspiration for art, education, recreation, and enjoyment. From dawn to dusk, you are welcome to stop by the property to take a walk, enjoy the early fall breeze off the lake, and admire the work of the artists who will be painting at various locations throughout the day. The event is free for the community to attend. Artist registration is $10, and you can register on our website.
Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. – www.artistsnetwork.com
