Tunes, Dances and Stories

Music professor, Jim Kimball and folklorist, Karen Canning will give a program on music and musicians relating to old-time dance history in rural New York, focusing on Wayne and surrounding counties.  They will perform tunes in traditional manner and read from period diaries and news sources and interviews with old timers.  Materials referenced by display or projection will include historical dance cards and advertisements.  Instrumental music will focus on the fiddle, the most important in old-time dance accompaniment, but may also include jaw harp, mouth organ, banjo, cello, pump organ and others.

This program is FREE and open to the public thanks to financial support from the Robert G. Boehmler Community Foundation and our Wayne County Bicentennial Sponsors.
